Adultery ✞ Evangelism Discernment

更新日:2月18日

What do you think when you see this?女✞聖?

Shalom (;^_^A שלום

So, this time I'll be writing about the very delicate topic of "女✞聖"

As I mentioned at the start, when you saw this photo, did a J✞C arise in your mind?

We'd be grateful if that were the case, but perhaps not for some of you.

For those people, I'll quote the following scripture as a note:

27“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. Matthew 27-29

To give a little background, at this time J✞C gathered His disciples in Israel and preached. The contents of the sermon were wide-ranging, but here He particularly pointed out the problem of the sin called "adultery." Some people may not be familiar with the word "adultery," but in a broad sense it refers to all sexual immoral acts. The narrow definition of "adultery" is having a sexual relationship with someone other than one's spouse. However, considering the entire context here, it would be more appropriate to adopt the broader meaning. Then, the expression "You shall not commit adultery" (original language: לא תנאף) comes from Exodus 20:14 and corresponds to one of the Ten Commandments given by the God of Israel to Moses. Therefore, this is a very important commandment that has been passed down from generation to generation in Israel.

So, regarding this "adultery" sermon by J✞C, to put it simply, for example, just looking at this photo would make many readers commit the sin of "adultery". Then, it seems He is saying that it would be better to gouge out one's eyes than to commit this serious sin. So, does this mean that it would be better for many readers who read this to gouge out their eyes? (・・❔❕

Apparently some people have actually gouged out their own eyes after reading this Σ(・□・;), but of course I don't recommend that (;´▽`A`` Besides, I don't think that J✞C Himself really instructed people to do so. As is the often case with J✞C's other sermons, it's probably fair to think that He used exaggerated language as an analogy to teach about the serious problem of sin. In short, it can be said that He is saying, "Whenever and wherever you look at a woman, be careful❣".

So, readers, what will you do specifically from now on?

If you have any answers in mind, please let us know.( `・∀・´)ノヨロシク✞
